Building NeverTyping: what on-device AI changes in product design

NeverTyping began with a narrow frustration: speaking can be faster than typing, but most voice workflows interrupt the very thought they are meant to capture. SKA Digital treated that friction as a product-design problem, not simply a transcription feature.

Start with the interaction, not the model

The core decision was to make dictation feel like an input method available throughout macOS. A global hold, speak and release gesture removes the separate-window ritual and returns the user to the cursor immediately.

The compact floating HUD communicates listening, language and completion without becoming another destination. That restraint shaped both the interface and the technical architecture.

  • System-wide trigger
  • Immediate visual feedback
  • Text returned to the active cursor
  • Minimal interruption

Local AI changes the trust model

On-device transcription avoids a cloud round-trip and allows the principal dictation flow to continue offline after model setup. This gives privacy a concrete architectural basis rather than leaving it as a marketing promise.

Local processing also creates engineering constraints: model packaging, Apple Silicon performance, permissions, memory, error recovery and language behavior all become visible parts of the product experience.

A focused product creates a stronger business

NeverTyping is intentionally presented on SKA Digital as a case study. Product discovery, commercial intent, pricing and downloads remain on nevertyping.com, while this page demonstrates how the studio connects strategy, interaction design and production engineering.

That separation protects the product brand and gives prospective studio clients evidence of delivery without creating two websites competing for the same search intent.

FAQ

Who built NeverTyping?

NeverTyping is an independent macOS product designed and developed by SKA Digital Studio.

Why use on-device AI for voice dictation?

Local processing can reduce latency, support offline use and keep voice data on the Mac, although it requires careful performance and model engineering.

Where can I find the official product?

Product information, pricing and downloads are available on the official website, nevertyping.com.
